2019 Retail Price Situationer of Selected Agricultural Commodities in BARMM

1. Cereals

The average retail price of Cereals decreased by Php2.40 per kilogram between 2018 and 2019.

Rice Special posted the highest retail price in all Cereals in 2019. It was sold at PhP49.90 per kilogram, which was 17.28 percent lower or PhP10.42 less than its price in the previous year. Retail price of Rice Premium also decreased by 8.46 percent; while retail prices of Well Milled Rice (WMR) and Regular Milled Rice (RMR) increased by 1.05 percent and 0.30 percent, respectively.

On the other hand, retail prices of Corngrain Yellow and Corngrain White increased by 16.31 percent and 14.23 percent, respectively; while Corngrits White decreased by 8.92 percent.

2. Rootcrops

Rootcrops in BARMM had an average retail price of PhP74.71 per kilogram in 2019. This was 3.38 percent higher than that of the previous year.

Among the four Rootcrop commodities in the region, White/Irish Potato recorded the highest retail price during this period. It costs PhP100.99 per kilogram in 2019. This was PhP0.34 less than its price in 2018.

Retail prices of all other Rootcrop increased during this period.

3. Beans and Legumes

The average retail price of Beans and Legumes in the region in the in 2019 was PhP79.17 per kilogram. This was 1.45 percent lower than the average retail price of these commodities in the previous year which was PhP80.34 per kilogram.

Among the five commodities of Beans and Legumes in BARMM during this period, Habitchuelas [Snap beans] had the highest price. It costs PhP97.55 per kilogram, which was 4.76 percent or PhP4.87 lower than its retail price in the previous year.

Retail prices of Mongo [Mungbean], green and Peanut without shell, dry also decreased by 1.81 percent and 0.98 percent; while Peanut with shell, dry and Stringbeans recorded corresponding positive growth rates during this year.

4. Condiments

Condiments in BARMM had an average retail price of PhP123.21 per kilogram in 2019. This was 9.03 percent or PhP10.20 more than its retail price in the previous year.

Onion White (Yellow granex) recorded the highest retail price of PhP143.59 per kilogram and a negative growth rate of 0.66 percent.

Retail price Garlic also decreased by 3.16 percent.

On the other hand, Ginger Hawaiian and Onion Red Creole (Bermuda red) recorded positive growth rates of 59.27 percent and 1.39 percent, respectively.

5. Fruit Vegetables

The average retail price per kilogram of Fruit Vegetables in BARMM increased by 6.52 percent or by PhP2.91 in 2019.

Ampalaya [Bitter gourd] recorded the highest retail price per kilogram in 2019. This price increased by 2.38 percent or by PhP1.78 in this period, from the PhP74.71 per kilogram retail price in 2018 to PhP76.49.

Tomato was sold at retail price of PhP57.21 per kilogram in 2019. This was 23.67 percent higher than its price in the previous year.

Moreover, retail price of Eggplant long, purple also increased by 15.74 percent or by PhP6.01 per kilogram during this period.

Retail prices of Chayote and Upo [Bottle gourd] increased by 9.25 percent and 10.84 percent, respectively.

On the other hand, Squash posted a negative growth rate of 15.52 percent.

6. Leafy Vegetables

The average retail price per kilogram of Leafy Vegetables in BARMM increased by 0.27 percent or PhP0.15 in 2019.

Cabbage recorded the highest retail price per kilogram among the Leafy Vegetable commodities in BARMM. It was sold at PhP89.39 per kilogram in 2019, which was 2.31 percent or PhP2.02 higher than its retail price in 2018.

Retail prices of all Leafy Vegetables also increased during this period, except for Camote tops [Sweet potato tops] which decreased by 7.05 percent.

7. Fruits

Fruits in BARMM posted a 4.92 percent increase in its average retail price during in 2019. This was PhP2.56 more than its average retail price in the previous year.

Mango Carabao, ripe recorded the highest retail price of PhP107.19 per kilogram in 2019.

Pineapple Hawaiian posted a positive growth rate of 24.88 percent, while Papaya Hawaiian’s retail price increased by 0.84 percent.

Retail prices of all Banana commodities, except for Banana Latundan, ripe which

increased by 0.07 percent, decreased during this period.

Moreover, retail price of Calamansi increased by 7.87 percent.

8. Commercial Crops

The retail price per kilogram of Coconut matured in BARMM decreased by 13.31 percent or by PhP2.35 between 2018 and 2019.

9. Meat

Retail prices of all Meat commodities in BARMM increased in 2019.

Beef Lean Meat posted the highest retail price during this period. It was sold at PhP293.14 per kilogram, which is 7.91 percent higher than the previous year.

Pork Lean Meat was sold at PhP203.30. This was 0.79 percent higher or PhP1.59 more than its retail price in the previous year.

10. Poultry

The average retail prices of Poultry commodities in BARMM increased by 40.59 percent in 2019.

Chicken Fully Dressed (broiler) was sold at PhP155.62 per kilogram, that was 0.59 percent lower or PhP0.92 less than its retail price in the previous year.

Retail price of Duck egg and Chicken egg (other breed) increased by 9.93 percent and 3.24 percent, respectively.

11. Fish

Fish commodities in BARMM were sold at an average retail price of PhP216.65 per kilogram. It was 34.45 percent higher or PhP55.51 more than its price in the previous year.

Shrimp, Sugpo [Tiger prawn] recorded the highest retail price of PhP697.71 in 2019. However, there was no production in the previous year.

The average retail price of Crab, Alimasag [Blue crab] was PhP297.56. This was 15.73 percent higher than that of the previous period.

Retail price of Bangus [Milkfish] decreased in 2019, from PhP185.57 to PhP181.52 per kilogram.

On the other hand, Bisugo [Threadfin bream] posted a negative growth rate of 10.44 percent in its retail price.

TECHNICAL NOTES

A brief report entitled “Retail Price Situationer of Selected Agricultural Commodities” provides quarterly updates on the prevailing retail prices of indicator agricultural commodities. The prices are gathered from designated trading centers in key city of each region. The price update is a quarterly report generated from the Retail Price Surveys (RPS) which is one of the services provided by the Agricultural Marketing Information System (AGMARIS).

The RPS intends to collect retail prices and other relevant marketing information at various frequencies at pre-selected major trading centers throughout the country.

The following agricultural and selected basic commodities are included in the weekly price collection:
