Q1 2019 Retail Price Situationer of Selected Agricultural Commodities in BARMM

1. Cereals

The average retail price of Cereals increased by Php1.06 per kilogram between the first quarters of 2018 and 2019.

Retail prices of all Rice commodities, except for Rice Special, increased during the first quarter of 2019. Rice Special posted the highest price of PhP50.82 per kilogram which is 14.21 percent lower than its price in the previous year. This was followed by Rice Premium, Well Milled Rice (WMR) and Regular Milled Rice (RMR).

On the other hand, all Corn commodities, except for Corngrits White, increased during the period. Corngrain White and Corngrain Yellow increased by 10.48 percent and 15.35 percent, respectively, between the first quarters of 2019.

2. Rootcrops

Rootcrops in BARMM had an average retail price of PhP71.12 per kilogram during the first quarter of 2019. This was 1.04 percent higher than that of the first quarter of the previous year.

Among the four Rootcrop commodities in the region, White/Irish Potato recorded the highest retail price during this period. It costs PhP99.50 per kilogram during the first quarter of 2019. This was PhP3.29 more than its price in 2018.

Retail prices of all other Rootcrop, except for Gabi Cebu, for ginataan [Taro (cocoyam)] which decreased by 5.96 percent, also increased during this period.

3. Beans and Legumes

The average retail price of Beans and Legumes in the region in the first quarter of 2019 was PhP78.49 per kilogram. This was 2.38 percent lower than the average retail price of these commodities in the first quarter of the previous year which was PhP80.41 per kilogram

Retail prices of all Beans and Legumes, except for Peanut with shell, dry, also decreased during this period.

Among the five commodities of Beans and Legumes in BARMM during this period, Habitchuelas [Snap beans] had the highest price. It costs PhP96.56 per kilogram, which was 3.79 percent or PhP3.80 lower than its retail price in the first quarter of the previous year.

4. Condiments

Condiments in BARMM had an average retail price of PhP108.24 per kilogram during the first quarter of 2019. This was 3.87 percent or PhP4.35 more than its retail price in the first quarter of the previous year.

Retail prices of all Condiments, except for Ginger Hawaiian, decreased during this period.

Onion White (Yellow granex) recorded the highest retail price of PhP133.85 per kilogram and a negative growth rate of 7.43 percent

5. Fruit Vegetables

The average retail price per kilogram of Fruit Vegetables in BARMM increased by 7.02 percent or by PhP3.07 in the first quarter of 2019.

Ampalaya [Bitter gourd] recorded the highest retail price per kilogram during the first quarter of 2019. This price increased by 6.15 percent or by PhP4.58 in this period, from the PhP74.50 per kilogram retail price in the first quarter of 2018 to PhP79.09.

Tomato was sold at retail price of PhP53.05 per kilogram during the first quarter of 2019. This was 23.76 percent higher than its price in the previous year of the same quarter. • Moreover, retail price of Eggplant long, purple also increased by 25.39 percent or by PhP9.16 per kilogram during this period.

Retail prices of Squash and Upo [Bottle gourd] decreased by 15.50 percent and 5.58 percent, respectively.

 On the other hand, Chayote posted a negative growth rate of 14.92 percent.

6. Leafy Vegetables

The average retail price per kilogram of Leafy Vegetables in BARMM decreased by 5.45 percent or PhP3.00 in the first quarter of 2019.

Cabbage recorded the highest retail price per kilogram among the Leafy Vegetable commodities in BARMM. It was sold at PhP79.96 per kilogram in the first quarter of 2019, which was 1.47 percent or PhP1.19 lower than its retail price in 2018.

Retail prices of all Leafy Vegetables also decreased during this period.

7. Fruits

Fruits in BARMM posted a 0.43 percent decrease in its average retail price during the first quarter of 2019. This was PhP0.24 less than its average retail price in the previous year of the same period.

Mango Carabao, ripe recorded the highest retail price of PhP102.70 per kilogram in the first quarter of 2019.

Pineapple Hawaiian posted a positive growth rate of 29.72 percent, while Papaya Hawaiian’s retail price decreased by 2.82 percent.

Retail prices of all Banana commodities, except for Banana Saba, ripe which decreased by 14.67 percent, increased during this period.

Moreover, retail price of Calamansi increased by 0.58 percent.

8. Commercial Crops

The retail price per kilogram of Coconut matured in BARMM decreased by 14.01 percent or by PhP2.55 between the first quarters of 2018 and 2019

9. Meat

Retail prices of all Meat commodities in BARMM increased during the first quarter of 2019.

Beef Lean Meat posted the highest retail price during this period. It was sold at PhP287.12 per kilogram, which is 8.93 percent higher than the previous year.

Pork Lean Meat was sold at PhP216.62. This was 10.52 percent higher or PhP20.62 more than its retail price in the previous year.

10. Poultry

The average retail prices of Poultry commodities in BARMM decreased by 2.26 percent.

Chicken Fully Dressed (broiler) was sold at PhP150.61 per kilogram, that was 2.97 percent lower or PhP4.62 less than its retail price in the previous year

Retail price of Duck egg and Chicken egg (other breed) increased by 5.35 percent and 4.97 percent, respectively.

11. Fish

Fish commodities in BARMM were sold at an average retail price of PhP207.86 per kilogram. It was 28.78 percent higher or PhP46.45 more than its price in the first quarter of the previous year.

Shrimp, Sugpo [Tiger prawn] recorded the highest retail price of PhP636.88 during the first quarter of 2019. However, there was no production in the previous year.

The average retail price of Crab, Alimasag [Blue crab] was PhP285.63. This was 11.87 percent higher than that of the previous period.

Retail price of Bangus [Milkfish] increased in the first quarter of 2019, from PhP158.49 to PhP181.14 per kilogram.

On the other hand, Bisugo [Threadfin bream] posted a negative growth rate of 6.88 percent in its retail price.
