Q4 2019 Retail Price Situationer of Selected Agricultural Commodities in BARMM

1. Cereals

The average retail price of Cereals decreased by Php4.85 per kilogram between the fourth quarters of 2018 and 2019.

• Retail prices of all Rice commodities decreased during the fourth quarter of 2019. Rice Special posted the highest price of PhP48.77 per kilogram which is 17.79 percent lower than its price in the previous year. This was followed by Well Milled Rice (WMR), Rice Premium and Regular Milled Rice.

• On the other hand, all Corn commodities, except for Corngrits White, increased during the period. Corngrain White and Corngrain Yellow increased by 14.11 percent and 14.54 percent, respectively, between the fourth quarters of 2019.

2. Rootcrops

Rootcrops in BARMM had an average retail price of PhP74.62 per kilogram during the fourth quarter of 2019. This was 3.14 percent higher than that of the fourth quarter of the previous year.

• Among the four Rootcrop commodities in the region, Carrots recorded the highest retail price during this period. It costs PhP100.55 per kilogram during the fourth quarter of 2019. This was PhP3.57 more than its price in 2018.

• Retail prices of all other Rootcrop, except for White/Irish Potato which decreased by 0.28 percent, also increased during this period.

3. Beans and Legumes

The average retail price of Beans and Legumes in the region in the fourth quarter of 2019 was PhP78.78 per kilogram. This was 3.75 percent lower than the average retail price of these commodities in the fourth quarter of the previous year which was PhP81.85 per kilogram

• Retail prices of all Beans and Legumes, except for Stringbeans, also decreased during this period.

• Among the five commodities of Beans and Legumes in BARMM during this period, Peanut without shell, dry had the highest price. It costs PhP97.54 per kilogram, which was 1.13 percent or PhP1.11 lower than its retail price in the fourth quarter of the previous year.

4. Condiments

Condiments in BARMM had an average retail price of PhP147.25 per kilogram during the fourth quarter of 2019. This was 29.69 percent or PhP33.71 more than its retail price in the fourth quarter of the previous year.

• Retail prices of all Condiments increased during this period.

• Onion White (Yellow granex) recorded the highest retail price of PhP169.76 per kilogram and a positive growth rate of 16.98 percent.

5. Fruit Vegetables

The average retail price per kilogram of Fruit Vegetables in BARMM increased by 2.28 percent or by PhP1.01 in the fourth quarter of 2019.

• Ampalaya [Bitter gourd] recorded the highest retail price per kilogram during the fourth quarter of 2019. This price decreased by 8.49 percent or by PhP6.20 in this period, from the PhP73.03 per kilogram retail price in the fourth quarter of 2018 to PhP66.83.

• Tomato was sold at retail price of PhP53.92 per kilogram during the fourth quarter of 2019. This was 18.81 percent higher than its price in the previous year of the same quarter.

• Moreover, retail price of Eggplant long, purple also increased by 6.93 percent or by PhP2.78 per kilogram during this period.

• Retail prices of Upo [Bottle gourd] and Chayote increased by 11.58 percent and 15.14 percent, respectively.

• On the other hand, Squash posted a negative growth rate of 14.81 percent.

6. Leafy Vegetables

The average retail price per kilogram of Leafy Vegetables in BARMM increased by 2.54 percent or PhP1.47 in the fourth quarter of 2019.

• Cabbage recorded the highest retail price per kilogram among the Leafy Vegetable commodities in BARMM. It was sold at PhP89.69 per kilogram in the fourth quarter of 2019, which was 3.17 percent or PhP2.76 higher than its retail price in 2018.

• Retail prices of all Leafy Vegetables, except for Camote tops [Sweet potato tops], also increased during this period.

• Camote tops [Sweet potato tops] recorded a negative growth rate of 4.16 percent.

7. Fruits

Fruits in BARMM posted a 1.28 percent decrease in its average retail price during the fourth quarter of 2019. This was PhP0.69 less than its average retail price in the previous year of the same period.

• Mango Carabao, ripe recorded the highest retail price of PhP118.12 per kilogram in the fourth quarter of 2019.

• Pineapple Hawaiian posted a positive growth rate of 21.26 percent, while Papaya Hawaiian’s retail price also increased by 0.64 percent.

• Retail prices of all Banana commodities, except for Banana Lakatan, ripe which decreased by 7.86 percent, increased during this period.

• Moreover, retail price of Calamansi increased by 14.04 percent.

8. Commercial Crops

The retail price per kilogram of Coconut matured in BARMM decreased by 12.02 percent or by PhP2.01 between the fourth quarters of 2018 and 2019.

9. Meat

Retail prices of all Meat commodities in BARMM, except for Pork Lean Meat, increased during the fourth quarter of 2019.

• Retail prices of Beef Lean Meat and Beef Meat with bones increased by 4.86 percent and 6.61 percent between the fourth quarters of 2018 and 2019. That was PhP13.69 and PhP12.36 more than their retail prices in the previous year, respectively.

• Pork Meat with bones was sold at PhP198.00 per kilogram, while Pork Lean Meat costs PhP196.00 per kilogram. They posted the corresponding growth rates of 5.58 percent and negative 7.55 percent.

• Moreover, Pork Pata (front) had no significant change.

10. Poultry

The average retail prices of Poultry commodities in BARMM increased by 1.33 percent. This was brought by the increase in all commodities under this sector during the fourth quarter of 2018.

• Chicken Fully Dressed (broiler) was sold at PhP160.89 per kilogram, that was 0.53 percent higher or PhP0.84 less than its retail price in the previous year.

• Retail price of Duck egg and Chicken egg (other breed) increased by 13.91 percent and 4.42 percent, respectively.

11. Fish

Fish commodities in BARMM were sold at an average retail price of PhP171.90 per kilogram. It was 2.99 percent higher or PhP4.99 more than its price in the fourth quarter of the previous year.

• Shrimp, Suaje [Endeavor prawn] recorded the highest retail price of PhP356.08 during the fourth quarter of 2019.

• The average retail price of Crab, Alimasag [Blue crab] was PhP299.40. This was 10.43 percent higher than that of the previous period.

• Retail price of Bangus [Milkfish] decreased in the fourth quarter of 2019, from PhP193.71 to PhP176.64 per kilogram.

• On the other hand, Bisugo [Threadfin bream] posted a negative growth rate of 18.16 percent in its retail price.
