Q3 2019 Retail Price Situationer of Selected Agricultural Commodities in BARMM

1. Cereals

The average retail price of Cereals decreased by Php6.15 per kilogram between the third quarters of 2018 and 2019.

• Retail prices of all Rice commodities decreased during the third quarter of 2019. Rice Special posted the highest price of PhP49.18 per kilogram which is 27.55 percent lower than its price in the previous year. This was followed by Rice Premium, Well Milled Rice (WMR) and Regular Milled Rice (RMR). S
• On the other hand, all Corn commodities, except for Corngrits White, also increased during the period. Corngrain Yellow and Corngrain White increased by 13.94 percent and 12.80 percent, respectively, between the third quarters of 2019. On the other hand, there was no production of Corngrits Yellow during the third quarter of 2018.

2. Rootcrops

Rootcrops in BARMM had an average retail price of PhP76.90 per kilogram during the third quarter of 2019. This was 5.49 percent lower than that of the third quarter of the previous year.

• Among the four Rootcrop commodities in the region, Carrots recorded the highest retail price during this period. It costs PhP106.43 per kilogram during the third quarter of 2019. This was PhP8.80 more than its price in 2018.
• Retail prices of all other Rootcrop also increased during this period.

3. Beans and Legumes

The average retail price of Beans and Legumes in the region in the third quarter of 2019 was PhP78.78 per kilogram. This was 3.75 percent lower than the average retail price of these commodities in the third quarter of the previous year which was PhP81.85 per kilogram.

• Retail prices of all Beans and Legumes, except for Stringbeans, also decreased during this period.
• Among the five commodities of Beans and Legumes in BARMM during this period, Peanut without shell, dry had the highest price. It costs PhP97.54 per kilogram, which was 1.13 percent or PhP1.11 lower than its retail price in the third quarter of the previous year.

4. Condiments

Condiments in BARMM had an average retail price of PhP120.25 per kilogram during the third quarter of 2019. This was 4.48 percent or PhP5.16 more than its retail price in the third quarter of the previous year.

• Retail prices of all Condiments, except for Ginger Hawaiian decreased during this period.
• Ginger Hawaiian recorded the highest retail price of PhP138.69 per kilogram and a positive growth rate of 79.49 percent, that was from PhP77.27 to PhP138.69 between the third quarters of 2018 and 2019.

5. Fruit Vegetables

The average retail price per kilogram of Fruit Vegetables in BARMM increased by 3.17 percent or by PhP1.47 in the third quarter of 2019.

• Ampalaya [Bitter gourd] recorded the highest retail price per kilogram during the third quarter of 2019. This price decreased by 1.71 percent or by PhP1.31 in this period, from the PhP76.37 per kilogram retail price in the third quarter of 2018.
• Tomato was sold at retail price of PhP59.64 per kilogram during the third quarter of 2019. This was 23.17 percent higher than its price in the previous year of the same quarter.
• Moreover, retail price of Eggplant long, purple also increased by 11.47 percent or by PhP4.59 per kilogram during this period.
• Retail prices of Upo [Bottle gourd] and Chayote increased by 9.99 percent and 3.55 percent, respectively.
• On the other hand, Squash posted a negative growth rate of 19.99 percent.

6. Leafy Vegetables

The average retail price per kilogram of Leafy Vegetables in BARMM decreased by 3.85 percent or PhP2.26 in the third quarter of 2019.

• Cabbage recorded the highest retail price per kilogram among the Leafy Vegetable commodities in BARMM. It was sold at PhP86.43 per kilogram in the third quarter of 2019, which was 8.08 percent or PhP7.60 lower than its retail price in 2018.
• Retail prices of all Leafy Vegetables, except for Pechay native, also decreased during this period.
• Pechay native recorded a positive growth rate of 5.28 percent.

7. Fruits

Fruits in BARMM posted a 2.51 percent decrease in its average retail price during the third quarter of 2019. This was PhP1.87 less than its average retail price in the previous year of the same period.

• Mango Carabao, ripe recorded the highest retail price of PhP108.27 per kilogram in the third quarter of 2019. Moreover, Mango Piko, ripe was sold at PhP84.68, and there was no production in the region in the third quarter of 2018.
• Pineapple Hawaiian posted a positive growth rate of 39.89 percent, while Papaya Hawaiian’s retail price decreased by 1.36 percent.
• Retail prices of all Banana commodities decreased during this period.
• Moreover, retail price of Calamansi increased by 3.65 percent.

8. Commercial Crops

The retail price per kilogram of Coconut matured in BARMM decreased by 13.73 percent or by PhP2.40 between the third quarters of 2018 and 2019.

9. Meat

Retail prices of all Meat commodities in BARMM, except for Pork Lean Meat, increased during the third quarter of 2019.

• Retail prices of Beef Lean Meat and Beef Meat with bones increased by 8.81 percent and 13.32 percent between the third quarters of 2018 and 2019. That was PhP23.93 and PhP23.59 more than their retail prices in the previous year, respectively.
• Pork Meat with bones was sold at PhP198.07 per kilogram, while Pork Lean Meat costs PhP196.57 per kilogram. They posted the corresponding growth rates of 12.78 percent and negative 2.92 percent.
• Moreover, Pork Pata (front) also increased by 2.88 percent, that was from PhP171.24 to PhP176.17 per kilogram.

10. Poultry

The average retail prices of Poultry commodities in BARMM increased by 0.60 percent. This was brought by the increase in all commodities under this sector, except for Chicken Fully Dressed (broiler), while there was no production for Chicken Broiler (live) during the third quarter of 2018.

• Chicken Fully Dressed (broiler) was sold at PhP157.79 per kilogram, that was 0.04 percent lower or PhP0.07 less than its retail price in the previous year.
• Retail price of Duck egg and Chicken egg (other breed) increased by 11.38 percent and 1.95 percent, respectively.

11. Fish

Fish commodities in BARMM were sold at an average retail price of PhP218.38 per kilogram. It was 30.60 percent higher or PhP51.17 more than its price in the third quarter of the previous year.

• Shrimp, Sugpo [Tiger prawn] recorded the highest retail price of PhP693.68 during the third quarter of 2019, while Shrim, Suaje [Endeavor prawn] was sold at PhP353.75 per kilogram.
• The average retail price of Crab, Alimasag [Blue crab] was PhP303.49. This was 20.10 percent higher than that of the previous period.
• Retail price of Bangus [Milkfish] also decreased in the third quarter of 2019, from PhP203.68 to PhP175.42 per kilogram.
• On the other hand, Bisugo [Threadfin bream] posted a negative growth rate of 17.54 percent in its retail price.

TECHNICAL NOTES

A brief report entitled “Retail Price Situationer of Selected Agricultural Commodities” provides quarterly updates on the prevailing retail prices of indicator agricultural commodities. The prices are gathered from designated trading centers in key city of each region. The price update is a quarterly report generated from the Retail Price Surveys (RPS) which is one of the services provided by the Agricultural Marketing Information System (AGMARIS).

The RPS intends to collect retail prices and other relevant marketing information at various frequencies at pre-selected major trading centers throughout the country.
