Q1 2019 Livestock Production and Inventory in ARMM
Livestock production in ARMM increased by 2.20 percent in Q1 2019
The total livestock production in ARMM increased by 2.20 percent in the first quarter of 2019, from 7,305 metric tons (MT) in the first quarter of 2018 to 7,466 MT. Production of all animal types in the region, except for Goat, also increased during this period. Carabao, Cattle and Hog increased by 5.39 percent, 0.66 percent and 3.77 percent, respectively. On the other hand, Goat production decreased by 1.09 percent.
Hog contributes 43.18 percent of the total livestock production in ARMM
Hog production comprised 43.18 percent of the total livestock production in ARMM in the first quarter of 2019. This was followed by Cattle and Carabao with percentage shares of 26.52 percent and 12.05 percent, respectively. Moreover, Goat recorded the lowest percentage share of 18.24 percent during this period.
Livestock inventory in ARMM increased by 10.20 percent in Q1 2019
The total livestock inventory in ARMM increased by 10.20 percent, from 403,679 heads in 01 January 2018 to 444,859 heads in 01 January 2019. Livestock inventory in all provinces in ARMM, namely Basilan, Lanao del Sur, Maguindanao, Sulu and Tawi-Tawi, also increased by 6.43 percent, 13.78 percent, 14.43 percent, 3.78 percent and 5.84 percent, respectively.
Lanao del Sur was posted the highest inventory of livestock in ARMM. This province recorded 138,175 heads as of 01 January 2019, that is 31.06 percent of the total livestock inventory in the region. This was followed by Basilan and Maguindanao with percentage shares of 28.89 percent and 24.36 percent, respectively. The remaining 10.00 percent and 5.69 percent were from Sulu and Tawi-Tawi, respectively.
Moreover, inventory of all animal types posted positive growth rates of 4.21 percent for Carabao, 17.45 percent for Cattle, 11.55 percent for Goat and 9.08 percent for Swine, from 01 January 2018 to 01 January 2019.
About 42.46 percent of the total livestock inventory in the region during this period was comprised of Goat. Carabao shared 27.51 percent, while Cattle and Swine contributed 19.12 percent and 10.91 percent, respectively.
