2018 Livestock Production in ARMM

Livestock production in ARMM increased by 4.0 percent in 2018

The total production in ARMM increased by 4.0 percent in 2018 to 34,156 metric tons (MT) from the 32,837 MT production in the previous year (Figure 1). ARMM recorded the least amount of production in Mindanao contributing 4.4 percent of the total estimate in the island (Figure 2).

Hog and cattle recorded the highest production in ARMM in 2018 

About 30.9 percent and 30.6 percent of the total livestock production in ARMM in 2018 were contributed by hog and cattle, respectively. On the other hand, production of carabao comprised 23.8 percent, while goat recorded a 14.8 percent share to the total regional estimate during the period (Figure 3).

Moreover, production in all animal types in the region increased in 2018 as compared with the production in the previous year, except for cattle which decreased by 0.2 percent. Goat production recorded the highest growth rate of 8.3 percent. This was followed by hog with 6.1 percent and carabao with 4.5 percent growth rates (Figure 4).

ARMM posted the least production of hog in Mindanao in 2018 

As a predominantly Muslim region (based on 2015 Census of Population), ARMM posted the lowest level of production of hog in Mindanao contributing only 1.8 percent of the total production in the island in 2018 (Figure 5).  

Moreover, ARMM ranked fifth out of the six regions in Mindanao in terms of production of carabao and cattle during the reference period with percent contributions of 15.6 percent and 11.4 percent, respectively (Figure 6 and Figure 7). Lastly, ARMM produced 17.8 percent of the total goat production in Mindanao in 2018, which ranked fourth out of six regions (Figure 8).

TECHNICAL NOTES 

This report presents the performance of the livestock industry of the region in 2018 in terms of volume of production. 

This describes the situation of livestock industry in ARMM by providing comparative analyses of data on production between first quarters of 2017 and 2018, among regions across Mindanao and among animal types.

Concept/s and Definition/s 

Volume of Production - the volume of locally-raised animals disposed for slaughter which include animals shipped-out for slaughter. This is expressed in thousand metric tons, liveweight.
