Price Situation of Livestock in ARMM for the First Quarter of 2018
The average farmgate price of backyard livestock commodities in ARMM for the first quarter of 2018 is recorded at P124.76 per kilogram. This is 32.6 percent higher than that of the first quarter of the previous year. Among the four major livestock commodities in the region, goat, particularly for slaughter, posted the highest farmgate price of P167.37 per kilogram, as shown in Figure 1. This is followed by cattle (for slaughter), carabao (for work) and hogs (upgraded for breeding and slaughter) with corresponding average farmgate prices of P125.26, P104.88 and P101.50 per kilogram.
Table 1 shows the average farmgate price of livestock commodities in each province of ARMM in the first quarter of 2018. Tawi-Tawi posted the highest average farmgate price of P252.21 per kilogram during this period which is derived only from the farmgate price per kilogram of goat (for slaughter). This is followed by Maguindanao and Sulu with average farmgate price of P138.66 and P112.45 per kilogram, respectively, prices derived from cattle, goat and hogs only for both provinces. Basilan recorded an average farmgate price of P104.35 per kilogram from the farmgate prices of all livestock commodities. On the other hand, there is no data available from Lanao del Sur.

The average retail price of meat in ARMM increased by 8.3 percent, or to a total of P194.48 per kilogram, between the first quarters of 2017 and 2018. Retail price of all meat types marketed in the region, namely beef lean meat, beef meat with bones, pork lean meat, pork meat with bones and pork pata (front), also increased during this period by 5.2 percent, 3.2 percent, 16.7 percent, 5.1 percent and 13.5 percent, respectively. Figure 2 shows that among these meats, beef lean meat is the most expensive amounting at P263.59 per kilogram during this period. It is followed by pork lean meat (P196.00), beef meat with bones (P172.67), pork meat (P172.15) with bones and pork pata (P168.00).
The Province of Tawi-Tawi also recorded the highest average retail price of livestock meat in the first quarter of 2018, amounting at P223.11 per kilogram. This is derived from the retail prices of beef lean meat and beef meat with bones. With the same meat commodities as Tawi-Tawi, Sulu recorded the second highest average retail price of P216.51 per kilogram. Basilan markets beef lean meat, beef meat with bones and pork meat with bones during this period with an average retail price of P210.00. Lastly, Maguindanao has the five meat types and recorded the lowest average retail price of P192.08 per kilogram. On the other hand, Lanao del Sur still has no available data for this sector.

This report presents the situation of the livestock industry in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) in terms of prices, specifically farmgate and retail prices by province and by commodity type during the first quarter of 2018 (as these are the only available data for the region).

Farmgate Prices are prices received by farmers for the sale of their produce at first point of sale during their last transaction within the reference period.
