PSA-BARMM conducts Training on the April 2020 LFS
The Philippine Statistics Authority – Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PSA-BARMM) have successfully conducted the second level training of April 2020 Labor Force Survey (LFS) on April 17, 2020 via WebEx (video conference training or virtual training). The participants to these virtual training were the Chief Statistical Specialists (CSS) of the provinces of BARMM with their focal persons on LFS and some Statistical Operations and Coordination Division (SOCD) staff in the region.
The LFS is a nationwide quarterly survey on households conducted by PSA. The survey involved the collection of data on demographic and socio-economic characteristics of the population in general. The reporting unit was the household which implied that the statistics emanating from this survey referred to the characteristics of the population residing in private households. Persons who reside in institutions are not within the scope of the survey.
The LFS aims to provide quantitative framework for the presentation of plans and formulation of policies affecting the market. Specifically, the survey is designed to provide statistics on levels and trends of employment, unemployment and underemployment for the country, as a whole, and for each of the administrative regions. In addition, LFS aims to monitor the changes in the employment status of persons in the working age population (employed, unemployed and not in the labor force) during a specified time period.
In April 2020 round, unlike in previous LFS rounds, the PSA shall use a hybrid of interviewing method to adhere to the government’s policy to maintain social distancing. These approaches are options to be taken, whichever is feasible and amenable to the respondents.
In view of the implementation of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) due to the Coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, data collection for the April 2020 LFS which was previously scheduled on 8 to 30 April 2020, was undertaken from April 20 to May 16, 2020.
