Proportion of poor Filipinos in ARMM was estimated at 61.3 percent in 2018

The full year 2018 poverty incidence among population, or the proportion of poor Filipinos in ARMM whose per capita income is not sufficient to meet their basic food and non-food needs, was estimated at 61.3 percent. This translates to 2.5 million Filipinos in the region who lived below the poverty threshold estimated at PhP11,482, on average for a family of five per month in 2018. On the other hand, subsistence incidence among Filipinos in ARMM, or the proportion of Filipinos in the region whose income is not enough to meet even the basic food needs, was registered at 29.6 percent in 2018. The monthly food threshold for a family of five was estimated, on average, at PhP8,102.

Note: The 2015 estimates were revised/updated based on the following: a) rebasing of the Consumer Price Index (CPI) market basket of prices from 2006 to 2012; and b) adoption of the 2015 Census of Population results for the weights in the Family Income and Expenditure Survey (FIES).

Among families, the proportion of poor families in ARMM in 2018 was estimated at 53.6 percent, which is equivalent to 352.3 thousand families. Meanwhile, the subsistence incidence among families in ARMM was recorded at 22.8 percent, or around 149.7 thousand food poor families in 2018.
