PSA-ARMM CPAs attend 73rd Annual Convention of PICPA
Ms. Rufaidah T. Ibrahim, Accountant III; Mr. Anwar S. Abdullah, Budget Officer; and Ms. Normeena H. Arab, Bookkeeper of PSA-ARMM, attended the 73rd Annual Convention of Certified Public Accountants (CPAs) of different sectors (Commerce and Industry, Education, Public Sector, and Government) with the theme “Promoting Integrity. Advancing Excellence.” This was conducted by the Philippine Institute of CPAs (PICPA) last 21 to 24 November 2018 at SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.
Some PICPA delegates are assigned in other satelite venues, the L’Fisher Hotel and Osbron Hall of Ikthus Convention, to accommodate more than 5,000 participants from across the country. Ms. Arab attended the Business Opportunities Seminar which was held on November 21 at L’Fisher Hotel. The session focused on The World Outside Accountancy and The Entrepreneurial Mind. During the second day of convention, delegates were divided into sectors. The Government Sectoral Forum was attended by Ms. Ibrahim and Mr. Abdullah at Ikthus Hall with two presentations, The Revised IRR on Government Procurement Law and The Status and Key Challenges of International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS) Implementation. In afternoon session at SMX Convention, with live streaming on other two satelite venues, keynote message was given by the President and Chancellor of University of St. La Salle Bacolod City, Br. Joaquin S. Martinez. He talked about Promoting Integrity, Advancing Excellence. This was followed by the first technical session on Accountant in the Digital World by Dr. Jose Francisco B. Benitez President of Philippine Women’s University, Cyber Security by Mr. Reynaldo C. Lugtu President of Hungry Workhorse, Jr, Digital Tax by Mr. Lee Celso R. Vivas Partner of SGV & Co., and Cryptology and the Block Chain Theory: Impact on Financial Accounting Systems by Dr. Atty. Noel G. Ramiscal an IT and Cultural Consultant.
On November 23, session on Integrated Reporting: Strengthening Trust in Business was presented by Mr. Simon Tay, Executive Director of Professional Practice and Technical Malaysian Institute of Accountant. This was followed by Ms. Cindy F. Ortiz of Navarro Amper & Co., of the third technical session on “The Tone form the Top: Ethical. Strong. Passionate.”. In the technical session 4, Ms. Gina S. Detera of Isla Lipana & Co. presented the Practical Challenges of the Adoption of the 2016 IESBA Code of Ethics. Rev. Fr. Adriano A. Satura, a Provincial Treasurer of Salesians of Don Bosco discussed Servant Leadership for the technical session 5. Presentation on The Future of Accounting and The Three Accounting Frameworks: A Snapshot Comparison were discussed in sixth and seventh technical sessions, respectively.
The last session focused on giving several updates on Accountancy Profession. In line with this, Hon. Antonnete C. Tiongko, the Undersecretary of Department of Finance, presented the Updates on Report on the Observance of Standards and Codes on Accounting and Audit. This was followed by SEC Updates by Atty. Emilio D. Aquino Chairman of Securities and Exchanges Commision. Updates on SEC Oversight Assurance Review (SOAR) and Intependent Audit Regulators (IFIAR) was presented by Commissioner Antonieta F. Ibe of Securities and Exchange Commission. Commissioner Cesar R. Dulay of Bureau of Internal Revenue presented the Latest on Tax Laws and Regulations and the Board of Accountancy Updates was discussed by the BOA Chairperson Noe G. Quiñanola. Then the Update on Cooperative Laws was presented by the Chairman of Cooperative Development Authority Hon. Orlando R. Ravanera.
After ther presentation of plaque of appreciations and the turnover of resolutions to PICPA Board, the PICPA National President, Ms. Maria Asuncion M. Golez, gave her closing remarks and acknowledgement. Moreover, the board announced that the 2019 PICPA Annual National Convention will be held in Laoag, Ilocos Norte.
