ARMM celebrates 29th National Statistics Month

Officials and employees of line agencies and other stakeholders in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) opened the month-long celebration of the 29th National Statistics Month, with the theme “Exploring Philippine Wonders in Numbers: Statistics towards Sustainable Tourism Development”, during the Flag Ceremony last October 01, 2018 at ARMM Compound, Cotabato City.

This was spearheaded by the Office of the Regional Governor (ORG), Chair of the ARMM Regional Statistics Committee (RSC); Regional Planning and Development Office (RPDO), Co-Chair of RSC; and Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), Co-Chair of RSC, represented by Atty. Laisa M. Alamia, Exectuive Secretary; Engr. Baintan A. Ampatuan, Executive Director; and Hji. Razulden A. Mangelen, OIC-Regional Director, respectively. Moreover, the celebration of this year’s NSM is hosted by the Department of Tourism (DOT), represented by Hon. Ayesha Vanessa Hajar M. Dilangalen, Regional Secretary in ARMM.

Engr. Ampatuan emphasizes in her speech the importance of statistics in the decision-making of every organization. She said that all programs and projects shall be implemented appropriately in accordance with the needs of the target population.

Statistics is also one of the foundations of development in tourism industry. Sec. Dilangalen invited everyone to participate in various data collection activities of the department by simply supplying their accurate information in logbooks of every tourist destination that they visit. Their department’s statistics, which is primarily collected from accommodation facilities, shows that the region’s tourism is consistently increasing. Sec. Dilangalen also thanked PSA, as well as the Philippine Statistical System (PSS) as a whole, for giving emphasis on tourism for this year’s NSM.

Employees of ARMM became emotional during Atty. Alamia’s keynote speech. According to her, the establishment of ARMM, as well as the reforms in the government, is based on statistics. The legacy of the current administration is measured in statistics. Moreover, the abolishment of the current government and establishment of a new one are also based on a carefully analyzed statistics. She encouraged the officials and employees to actively participate in the last NSM of ARMM.

OIC-Regional Director Mangelen emphasized the importance of tourism to the development of the region’s economy. He also reminded the employees that the data of ARMM are owned by all agencies and stakeholders in the region. Thus, everyone must join in this month’s celebration.

All agencies in ARMM will be conducting several activities for this month-long celebration. Among the highlights are the Statistical Exhibit and Friendly Basketball Game.
