PSA-ARMM celebrates Women's Month

PSA-ARMM participated in the month-long celebration of the 2018 National Women’s Month in March 2018 with the theme “We Make Change Work for Women.”

Ms. Noraisa E. Nur, the Gender and Development (GAD) Focal Person of PSA-ARMM initiated several activities for this month. Employees of PSA-ARMM Regional Statistical Services Office (RSSO) and the Provincial Statistical Office (PSO) of Maguindanao joined in the kick-off parade and opening program of the ARMM line agencies, bureaus and offices spearheaded by the Regional Commission on Bangsamoro Women (RCBW) on March 05, 2018 at ARMM Compound, Cotabato City. During the same day, PSA-ARMM also conducted a short program for the same occasion at PSA-ARMM Regional Office, Cotabato City. This was headed by Dr. Abubakar S. Asaad, Regional Director of PSA-ARMM; Ms. Cayang M. Macud, Chief of the Civil Registration and Administrative Support Division (CRASD); Mr. Naldo G. Pendaliday, Officer-in-Charge of the Statistical Operations and Coordination Division (SOCD); Mr. Razulden A. Mangelen, Chief Statistical Specialist of PSA-Maguindanao; and Ms. Nur. Employees of PSA-ARMM and PSA-Maguindanao enjoyed the parlor games and singing sessions prepared by the facilitators.

In his speech, Dr. Asaad emphasized the significant roles and contributions of women in PSA and the whole country. According to him, women are not a second class citizen anymore as what was perceived before. Dr. Asaad, together with some employees, has just arrived from Tawi-Tawi to attend the same occasion conducted by PSA-Tawi-Tawi on March 01, 2018 and other official transactions in the province with Asec. Romeo S. Recide, the Deputy National Statistician of the Sectoral Services Sector of PSA.

Employees were pampered with the wellness programs facilitated by the GAD Focal Person. They have undergone weekly sessions of manicure and pedicure, foot and body massage, haircut, and Zumba fitness. This also aims to celebrate women’s month in accordance with this year’s theme of PSA – “Healthy PSA, Happy PSA,” prioritizing the health and wellness of the employees of the agency.

Selected employees of PSA-ARMM participated in the 2nd Bangsamoro Women’s Summit of the ARMM conducted last March 14 to 15, 2018 at Shariff Kabunsuan Cultural Complex. CRASD Chief Macud, Ms. Nur, Ms. Melanie S. Mohammad, Ms. Normeena H. Arab, Ms. Nancy P. Lagamon, Ms Mariffie A. Ayob, Normina B. Ong, Nurfathma B. Lakim, and Ms. Ominah M. Macud attended the 2-day program for this summit and participated in the booth display. The PSA Team had an exhibit showcasing the agency’s mandates and distributed information materials on women and men in ARMM.

On March 20, 2018, PSA-ARMM invited Atty. Sha Elijah B. Dumama-Alba of the Civil Service Commission (CSC-ARMM) to introduce the Magna Carta of Women to the employees of PSA-ARMM and PSA-Maguindanao at PSA-ARMM Regional Office, Cotabato City.

Moreover, PSA-Basilan headed by Engr. Naser S. Usman, Chief Statistical Specialist conducted the Seminar-Workshop on Gender Development Awareness, Ecological Awareness, Managing Customer Service and Personal Development last March 21, 2018 at PSA-Basilan Provincial Office, Isabela City.

PSA-ARMM’s celebration of the National Women’s Month for 2018 was concluded last March 27, 2018 at PSA-ARMM Regional Office, Cotabato City. This was attended by the employees of PSA-ARMM and PSA-Maguindanao. Selected employees from CRASD, SOCD and PSA-Maguindanao serenaded their women colleagues.

Dr. Asaad says that this closing program does not end the commemoration of the efforts of women in our society. The month of March was just an official declaration of nationwide celebration of women, but Dr. Asaad highlighted that appreciation of women in all aspects must be done every day throughout the year.
