Usec. Bersales visits Simunul and Sapa-Sapa, Tawi-Tawi

PSA Team, headed by Usec. Lisa Grace S. Bersales with the local officials of the Municipality of Simunul, headed by Mayor Nazif Ahmad B. Abdurahman at Sheik Karimol Makhdum Mosque, Simunul.

Usec. Lisa Grace S. Bersales, the National Statistician and Civil Registrar General of the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA), visited the Municipalities of Simunul and Sapa-Sapa in the Province of Tawi-Tawi last January 11, 2018.

Usec. Bersales headed the PSA Team composed of Regional Directors of Mindanao Cluster: Dr. Abubakar S. Asaad of PSA-ARMM, Atty. Maqtahar L. Manulon of PSA-XII, and Dr. Mewchun WS. Pamaran of PSA-IX; Ms. Gaye A. Parcon, PSA Consultant; Provincial Statistics Officers (PSOs) of PSA-ARMM: Engr. Naser S. Usman of PSA-Basilan, Dr. Noronisa D. Macadadaya of PSA-Lanao del Sur, Hji. Razulden A. Mangelen of PSA-Maguindanao, Engr. Medzhor A. Tan of PSA-Sulu, and Mr. Masil H. Mohammadsha of PSA-Tawi-Tawi; and other PSA staffs from the Central, Regional and Provincial Offices. The team was also accompanied by the Philippine Marine Corps and Navy during this trip.

Simunul has 15 barangays and is the fifth most populated municipality in the province with a total population of 31,223, as of August 1, 2015 based on the results of 2015 Census of Population (POPCEN 2015), as presented by PSO Mohammadsha during the Provincial Data Dissemination of POPCEN 2015 conducted by PSA-Tawi-Tawi on January 10, 2018 in Bongao, Tawi-Tawi. PSO Mohammadsha also reported that Simunul has the highest proportion of voting-age population constituting 59.1 percent of its total population. Moreover, the municipality recorded the second highest proportion of senior citizens in its total population with the rate of 4.6 percent. On the other hand, Simunul is among the municipalities with an average household size that is lower than the provincial level.

Moreover, Usec Bersales and the PSA Team proceeded to Panampangan Island in the Municipality of Sapa-Sapa, Tawi-Tawi, where the longest sandbar in the Philippines is located. These municipalities are just among the beautiful places found in the province which have strengthened its tourism and driven its economic growth.

Usec. Bersales witnessed the uniqueness of Tawi-Tawi and its people in terms of culture and lifestyle. The PSA Team has considered the reaffirmation of the concepts of the data items in the statistical activities of the agency, especially on the conduct of social surveys and censuses to consider the province’s distinctiveness.
